This week at SDCC, a very special episode of #24Tuesday...

It's the 4th of July y'all! Let's party like it's 1773! No, put down that tea! In the spirit of freedom, we're giving you 2 special deal options today. And they're hot as a firecracker!

Buy any 3 items in the SDCC storefront, get the 4th item absolutely FREE. And shipping for your ENTIRE order will be $17.76. Just place your order as usual and enter the code: "July4-1776" in the payment notes at checkout. Easy peasy. And historically accurate!

or

Free Shipping store-wide! No minimums to buy. Buy 1, buy a hundred. We don't care, because today we celebrate! For this deal, enter the code: FREE-DOM in your payment notes.

The Rules: Because the Red Coats have us against our will (i.e. limits of the system), the final total will not be reflected at checkout. But don't worry, soon as they sail off back to merry 'ol England, and the items are processed and shipped, any adjustments will be credited back to your original form of payment--which should show in your balance within 7-10 days of the credit. Some exceptions apply as posted in the individual store listings, so buyers, be sure to read the entire description before signing your John Hancock (or keying in that credit card number). Your 4th item must be of equal or lesser value.

Now, sparklers ready? Let's light this roman candle!

Disclaimer: DC Collectibles bears no ill will toward our good neighbors across the pond. All this took place years before the internet, and you gave us Doctor Who and The Beatles, so we figure you're covered. We welcome most all overseas buyers as well. The Free Shipping deal applies to the 50-some-odd colonies alone, though you're free to get in on the 4th item free promo. Just not the discounted shipping. Well, maybe a little. No promises. We'll try. Cheers.

Throwback Thursday! Today at DC Collectibles....

The Lord of the Rings by Toy Biz.

It was the year 2001. The world had survived the Y2K apocalypse with flying colors, but a new threat was on the horizon...this time from Mount Doom. Middle-earth was about to have its first taste of live-action movie stardom in The Lord of the Rings, directed by Peter Jackson. For one who made his name early on with low budget horror and creature-fests, Jackson had his sights set high, and it payed off in spades. The Fellowship of the Ring came on strong out of the gate and only built momentum until the finale Return of the King. Often spoken of as the best of the Trilogy--certainly the most epic--The Return of the King (RotK for short) won numerous awards and threw Tolkien collectibles demand into a frenzy not seen since another little trilogy by George Lucas (you may have heard of it). Though the demand eventually cooled, interest once again heated up when The Hobbit Trilogy was produced, almost a decade later.

As with most successful (or hoped-to-be) franchises in modern times, the rights to produce action figures and collectibles was certainly a hot topic among fans. Speculation was wild and rampant about who would be selected for the honor. Almost no one expected the answer from...Toy Biz?

While Toy Biz had made big advancements since their early days of Marvel and DC Superheroes action figures, they certainly weren't perceived to be on par with the likes of Hasbro or Mattel, or even McFarlane Toys--who was currently on fire with its Movie Maniacs and Spawn lines. In fact, McFarlane was considered the front-runner to seize the toy rights.

Then came Spider-Man Classics, with its revolutionary multiple points of articulation (30+!). For the first time, Spidey could actually perform his wall-crawling poses! This of course led to a deluge of fan requests for more and more characters across the Marvel Universe spectrum. And thus Marvel Legends was born. With all this new respect for the company--and what was sensed to be a genuine respect for the property--Toy Biz made their play for the Lord of the Rings license. And, it worked.

Fast forward to 2016. The story of Gandalf, Bilbo, Frodo and the One Ring is complete. Toy Biz followed them all along the way, producing an exhaustive and admirable number of major and minor characters across the films, rivaled only by the likes of the largest franchises of Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Masters of the Universe and Star Trek. Quite an accomplishment for an up and comer known for its discount bin product only a few years back. These 6-inch scale action figures are compatible with other modern collector lines (e.g. Marvel Legends, Neca, Four Horsemen Mythic Legions, Game of Thrones, McFarlane Spawn) and make great fantasy collectibles in their own right.

Today at DC Collectibles, save 15% off all Lord of the Rings merchandise with code HOBBIT in the checkout notes at http://dccollect.com. Your original form of payment will be credited at point of shipping after your order is processed and adjustment for combined orders applied. But don't wait, the fires of Mount Doom are burning as the clock is turning. Once Frodo chucks the ring, then and there it's back again.

The hours are ticking by to...Happy New Year!

As the hours begin ticking by to the big event, some final sobering Denny Crane Deep Thoughts of 2014:

It's been a trying year here at DC.  We've gone through changes, both highs and low.  We've experienced the pain of moving, and the even greater pain of losing loved ones. But as the saying goes, what doesn't kill you most assuredly makes you stronger. Through it all, we've learned to accept what can't be changed.  Above all, we thank you our valued customers for hanging with us through a most exciting year.  Yes, 2014 was a memorable one--definately one for the books--but now as we turn the page to the year 2015, we look forward to brighter, stronger days ahead and a host of new inventory for your collection.  Bring on that New Year baby!

PSA: As most of you know already, all shipping services will be closed New Years Day, but the store remains open year round, and new orders will begin processing upon our return after the holiday. Please allow up to 48 business hours for a response.  Thank you and DC wishes you all a Happy New Year!  Be safe out there and God bless.

Denny Crane
